Police Buildings

A little while back I asked all the NHS trusts in Wales about how many buildings that they owned.  This was an interesting one because it showed all of the different buildings that they had left abandoned. It was also interesting to see how many of them paid a very little amount of rent on some of their buildings.  It got me thinking, how many buildings to the police in Wales have…  In this time of austerity (When are we not in one?), it would make sense to sell these buildings.

So, I asked all the Police authorities in Wales the same question, which was:

1) How many buildings your Authority owns
2) How many buildings your Authority rents
3) How many buildings your Authority own but have left empty
4) If the answer to question 3 is anything above 0, please can you tell me how long you have left them empty for

It was pretty much the same one copied from the NHS one.  So here are the answers.

1 building vacated May 2012
1 building vacated July 2012
1 building vacated September 2012
1 building vacated January 2016
1 building vacated June 2016

Looking at this, I was quite surprised how few buildings that these organisation held.  Compared to the NHS they own next to nothing. This surprised me a lot because you would have imagined that the Police would have buildings everywhere to make sure that they are able to respond. The thing that also strikes me is how few buildings that they have empty.  I would have thought that it would have been a lot more.  This also shows that when they have building vacated they they sell them.
