Gurkha's

The Gurkha’s are a British Army Unit that come from Nepal.  Their motto is “better to die than be a coward. They are literally an amazing fighting force and to join is an amazing achievement. They have had a few problems in years back with the way that the British Government has acted towards them.  A lot of Gurkhas have not eligible for British Pensions or citizenship, even though that have fought in the British Army.  That has now been solved due a huge amount of public interest campaigns.  SO what can we find out that, besides what I have written here?

We have discovered how many Gurkha’s served in the British Army.  I was quite surprised at this because I would have thought that they would have kept this to themselves.  We also know how many Gurkha’s came into Britain after 2009.  The UK border was not able to give a full amount because they didn't have the facilities, but they did give the information from the date stated.

So far pretty cool.  Information which gives us a little bit more information about their basic working life. SO what else?  Well how about how many Gurkhas made redundant?  Here’s the information.  You can also find how out how much has been spent on the Gurkha’s settlement, too.  You can also find out how much has been spent on Gurkha training and translation services.

Curiously, you can also find out (To a certain extent) the religious makeup of our army. The reason I bring this up is because I wouldn't have thought that people would have been able to get this information, but then again, it makes sense if it is done in a mass information way. You can also find out, in a general way, the mental health condition of the British Army.  Again, did you know that you could get this?

The thing is I also found this one. It lists all the MP’s which voted against Gurkha's taking up residency into the UK.  Realistically, I shouldn't be surprised by this because I have known the the UK Parliament does this quite regularly.  The thing that surprised me with this is that there was opposition.  Then again good government only works when there is good opposition.

IN many ways this has been a signpost blog.  It’s shown you where to get the information from.  It has shown, thought, there there isn't that much out there about the people. It has also shown me another regiment that I was not aware of which is the Royal Gibraltar Regiment.  So this means that I have to find more information about both of these groups.  Wouldn't it be fun to start working on this?
